Stephen A. Kirshon, CPA
founded the firm in 1970.  He is a recognized expert in the areas of tax and business planning, litigation support, and business valuations. As a strategic negotiator, he works closely with clients and attorneys on succession planning, business structuring, matrimonial matters, wrongful death suits, employment contracts and mergers and acquisitions. He advises high net worth clients with their tax compliance, retirement, financial and estate planning needs. He is a skilled executor and trustee, and currently serves on the board of an organization whose assets exceed sixty million dollars.

Over his distinguished career, he has been a trusted business advisor for businesses that range from small start ups to thriving companies.  Some of these businesses were ultimately acquired by public companies. Many are market leaders today.  He is well known in the community, having served in leadership roles on boards of several corporate and charitable organizations.  He is often appointed by Supreme Court Justices as an expert in business and valuation matters.

Stephen received his B.S. Degree in Accounting from Syracuse University and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Tammy S. Acard, CPA
is the managing partner and has been with the firm since 1995.  She is a recognized leader in estate and trusts. During her career she has worked with many prestigious law firms and is highly regarded for her sophisticated understanding of fiduciary services from both a legal and an accounting perspective.  She also specializes in business valuation services that relate to buy/sell agreements, matrimonial matters, and estate and gift valuations. She advises many of the firm’s high net worth clientele in the areas of estate, income and retirement planning.  Her expertise includes U.S. tax law as well as foreign taxation.

She is very active in the community and currently serves on the board of the Saint Francis Hospital Foundation. She has also served on the board of Family Services, Inc., one of the largest non-profit organizations in the Hudson Valley, where she chaired the audit committee. Her professional activities have included co-chairing the estate and trust committee for the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.  She has lectured before various professional groups on tax issues and valuations of business interests.

Tammy received her B.S. Degree in Accounting from SUNY Plattsburgh and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Bharat Thakkar, CPA, CFP, CITP
is the audit and technology partner and has been with the firm since May 2002.  His experience spans over 25 years and includes both public and private sector accounting.  He brings specialized skills in the fields of IT consulting and financial planning to the firm.  Employment in private industry has helped him obtain a unique, practical, hands-on business perspective that many public accountants can’t provide. His industry specialization includes real estate, manufacturing, retail, medical, legal, computer consulting, publishing, construction, utilities, schools, and not-for-profit organizations. He has worked with all types of entities including sole proprietors, closely held corporations, limited partnerships, fiduciaries and foreign companies. He was actively involved in implementing the firm’s transition to electronic document management systems.  His consulting services include advising clients in selection and implementation of computer software and hardware and end user training.

In addition to being a CPA, Bharat is also a Certified Financial Planner (‘CFP’) and a Certified Information Technology Professional (‘CITP’). The prestigious CITP designation is only held by approximately 1,450 CPAs in the country. Bharat is also a recent graduate of Leadership Dutchess a training program dedicated to educating and motivating aspiring citizens to serve in leadership roles within our community.

Bharat is a volunteer at a local food bank, and also helps nonprofit organizations via referrals from the Clearinghouse for Volunteer Accounting Services, (www.cvas-usa.org), an organization that assists non-profits by matching accountants with organizations in need of accounting services.

Bharat received his B.S. Accounting and Finance from University of Bombay. He is also a Chartered Accountant certified by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.  He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.
